The night before we this day we stayed at a hotel 20 minutes away from Salem and got the very last room they had available. We called in advance to see if they had any available and there was one and quickly got there. Right after paying for the night there was an older couple that just missed their chance, we would have offered to give up the room but we didn’t have a back up place to sleep so we just left the lobby and went to our room. We got a smoking room unfortunately. Alyssa grabbed her I Works diffuser and got the essential oils going and it actually helped get us through the night without being bothered by the smoke. We also had to charge all of our batteries since they were all dead and that was kind of the main reason we decided to get a room in the first place.
The next day was a long day of driving from Boston to Salem to Maine, through New Hampshire and into Vermont. The following are the stops that we made on this long day.
Salem Massachusetts
We couldn’t just drive by the famous witch town without stopping and we are glad we did. We got so see the famous Witch House, see scenes from the witch trials, eat good Guru Guru food and see several of the buildings from the 20 year old Disney Original movie Hocus Pocus. We got to see the white house with the single window room on top, the school where they tried to burn the witches, the city hall where the witches cast a spell on the towns people during the dance scene, and the girls mansion. It was all very fun to see and enjoy. We may have spent more time than planned in the area than we planned but it was worth it.
Maine
It was a pretty short drive up to Maine where we stopped in a small Navy town called Kittery. Being in Maine we had to find some good seafood since that is the right thing to do in that part of the states. We found the best at Warren’s Lobster House, the place is so popular they had to do a free valet service in order to park everyone in their small but large parking lot.
Alyssa ordered two complete lobsters and was quite surprised to see two lobsters staring at her waiting to be eaten, eyes and antennas and everything else intact. I had to help her out with some shell crushing but the lobster was delicious and appetite losing at the same time. I ordered fish and chips because I hear it’s the best to get up in New England. They were right! Definitely worth getting the fish and chips, they were very filling. After stuffing our faces it was time to continue on the expedition.
New Hampshire
We decided earlier that we were going to stay in Vermont for the night so we had to make a stop in New Hampshire. So the least we could do there was to grab some light dessert. We quickly found a Gelato place in the college town of Hanover where the college of Dartmouth resides. There were several students roaming the town, probably in search of Pokemon and Gelato because they were everywhere. The Gelato was delicious and pretty fresh but we still hold Gelato Paradiso with the best gelato.
This night we stayed in a Koa near Sharon Vermont.
