To say there was a single highlight of our long journey would be impossible. We saw so much that most people would most likely never see nor visit in their lifetime. We have made a list of some of our key favorites we got to experience on this amazing once-in-a-lifetime road trip.
Top Highlights of our Toyota Expedition Prius
- Our Favorite Restaurant– Tina’s Italian Bake Shop located near Six Flags in Chicago Illinois. We loved the atmosphere of the little shop. It is decorated with a lot of Italian home-styled furnishings and the food was absolutely delicious. Skylar ate a delicious sandwich, and Alyssa enjoyed a fresh summer salad. Definitely a place we will always remember.
- Our Favorite Amusement Park– This was a tough one because we were debating between Cedar Point in Ohio and Six Flags in New Jersey. Overall our favorite amusement park was Cedar Point for having a great variety and enormous amount of different thrills. Although Cedar Point was our favorite amusement park, it did not have our favorite roller coaster ride. Kingda Ka at Six Flags New Jersey was our favorite and most intense ride we have both been on. It is for good reason too, standing at 456 feet high and a crazy top speed of 128mph, it is the tallest and second fastest ride on this planet. Sadly it only lasts for about 28 seconds but you do cover over 3100ft of track length in that time.
- Our Favorite Place we would consider moving to – Portland Oregon. From seeing a little bit of every state we do have to say that home is the best place we thought of to live but the next best choice would be living in Oregon. There is so much to do and see around you and the best part would be living by the beach, even though majority of the time it would be cold, it would still be an amazing place to live. We love the greenery and seeing the ocean close by and not worrying about the snow being invasive makes this place ideal to make home.
- Our Busiest Day – New York City. We only got to spend a little more than a day in the Big Apple and probably could have spent a few weeks there if we had the time and the money to see everything. In the day and a half we spent there we saw a Yankees game, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Top of the Rock, top of the Empire State Building, walk around Times Square, a night tour across the Brooklyn Bridge, and a bike ride through Central Park. It was a lot of fun but a lot of running around to see everything.
- Our Favorite City – Boston. Probably because it has our favorite MLB ballpark (Fenway). It’s a down to earth city, with good restaurants, lots of history, lots of universities,
- Our Favorite National Park – We got to see some amazing National Parks such as the Grand Canyon, The Washington Monument, Mount Rushmores and the Badlands but our favorite would have to be Yellowstone. We only got to spend a single day there, but we still saw most everything we had hoped to. We found bison and elk and stopped at all the hot spots around. The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone was pretty awesome to see as a river creates two large waterfalls in the vast expansion. We even got to see the famous Old Faithful erupt out of the ground, it was a site to see it blow water 50 to 60 feet in the air.
- The Friendliest People – Oklahomans and Texans. They were so cheery and happy to talk to visitors.
- The Strangest Food We Ate – Fried alligator in Alabama. We stopped at Bass Pro Shop just to enjoy this yummy delicacy. It tastes a lot like flavorful chicken.

Many of you have asked if we would do this again, the answer is a big YES! Are there things that we would have changed? Of course. We probably would plan to visit EVERY MLB baseball stadium. After all, we have been to 16 of them together just this season and would only need to go to 14 more to visit them all. We would probably have to visit all the Six Flags theme parks as well. Alyssa would have liked to do a lot more hiking and outdoor exploring. We were so busy trying to get all of the touristy things accomplished that we didn’t get to experience several of the unique natural settings around the nation that we wanted to like the Appalachian Mountains or the North Carolina Coast.
