If you have been reading along, all the previous days to this post have been preparation adventures. We have now officially said goodbyes to several friends and family for the summer and have packed everything into our Prius. It took nearly 2 full days to pack and clean our bedroom and pack the car. After saying goodbye to Alyssa's parents and siblings we started down the road with a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean only to realize that it will be a couple months until we see it again.
We filled up the tank and set forth on our journey to the first stop, St. George Utah. We were first worried about the heat and still worry how it's going to be in Utah and Arizona since this past week decided to throw a heat wave at us. It got up to 113 degrees in Baker, Las Vegas, and Mesquite. Thank goodness for Air Conditioning. We were also worried with all the extra weight that we are carrying that our gas mileage would drop like a tank. We actually averaged 47 miles per gallon and with a 11 gallon tank we still could go another 100 miles after the past 400 already traveled.
We made one stop on the way to go the bathroom grab a quick bite and within 6 hours we arrived in St. George. We left Laguna around 11:45am and arrived in St. George around 6:30. When we got to St. George we dropped off some stuff at the hotel where my parents are staying and went to dinner at Iggie's Sports Grill so that we could watch the Dodgers play and have a good meal. The time change definitely is playing with our minds even being only 1 hour ahead of time.
Last night we were scavenging around the room looking for the trailer carrier pins to lock the trailer carrier to the hitch. We never did find it and so I woke up at 6:30 to go to Walmart and got a locking pin which actually might be better than the original pins. I was pretty tired on the drive up but mainly because of getting up early and going to Walmart while everyone was asleep at home.
Below are some photos of what the car looks like on the outside and inside and how we are going to eventually sleep inside.
