Delaware
In a hurry to get to Philadelphia and experience the most we could, we made a quick stop in Wilmington, DE to grab a bite to eat. We found a good lunch at Loma Coffee, (no we don’t drink coffee) although it probably does make some amazing coffee, we ordered delicious sandwiches, one sub and one panini. I would say we recommend taking a visit there if you are just passing by. What we noticed in Wilmington was a small simple city, close to a waterway, and filled with students. Quite a nice little college town.
Exploring Philadelphia
“There is so much to see and so little time” is quite a common phrase when traveling to awesome cities like Philly. When we first arrived we went straight to the Liberty Bell, it was just the way I remembered it from back in 2007 when I first visited it. The history behind it is still quite an icon. We were hoping to go into Independence Hall but we didn’t have tickets but one of the park ranger people told us to wait by the line for after 5pm they allow guests that didn’t have tickets to go in. Another lady that overheard us talking about not having tickets said that she a delayed flight and that she had some extra tickets so she gave us a couple and we ran to catch the next tour. It was a blessing because our parking time was ending soon. It was cool to see the historic landmark with a lot of it’s originality and still standing hundreds of years later.
After our tour we hopped in the car and drove down the road to see the new temple that was completed. They haven’t opened the temple yet for tours but we did get to walk around the grounds and take pictures. It was a beautiful temple and right next to the freeway. It definitely stands out from the rest of the surrounding buildings.
We made one more stop after visiting the temple, Rocky’s Steps behind the Washington Monument Fountain. Most of what I remember from this place was running up the steps, seeing the Rocky Statue and seeing an amazing outline of the city.
Phillies Game
The Phillies game was fun and the fans were loud. They played the Miami Marlins. The beginning of the game was slow so we decided to go get some real Philly Cheese steaks. By the time we made it to the lines for cheese steaks the Marlins were 4 runs ahead and then the Phillies got on the score-board but were still trailing. The game ended with the Marlins winning 9 to 3. On a good note, the Cheese Steaks were really good, we highly recommend getting the best from Tony Luke’s restaurant.
